Abby Strobbe, DVM

(Dr. Abby Strobbe is a caring, compassionate, funny, enthusiastic, hard-working, and a smart person. She refuses to accept terms such as “idiopathic” (unknown cause) and “untreatable.” Thankfully she was introduced to integrative medicine while working at a referral hospital outside of Chicago. She saw firsthand the positive effects of acupuncture when her traditional pain medications were not helping a patient.
She pursued acupuncture training with IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society), and she has helped small and large animals with her therapies. She finished a food therapy course through the Chi Institute. Learning integrative veterinary medical techniques has opened up many more options for Abby and her patients.
"Let food be your medicine & medicine be your food"- Socrates.
In addition to integrative care, Dr. Abby also practices traditional veterinary medicine. She is able to perform physical exams, administer vaccines, perform laboratory tests, prescribe medications (traditional and herbal), treat pets with acupuncture, and educate owners on nutrition. If a pet needs an x-ray, surgery, or a dental cleaning she will refer the client to a small animal clinic that she has already pre-screened for being a kind place to go. Having a well-educated integrative veterinarian for your pet allows an owner a variety of options, and they can pick what fits best for their budget and pet. As everyone knows - an owner typically knows what is best for their pet.
One of the most important things Dr. Abby does is to help pets pass peacefully in their own homes. It is never easy for an owner to decide to let a pet go, but when owners are ready to help their friend pass it is better for all involved that it be done at home whenever possible. Abby has a soothing and calming manner, and pets as well as owners appreciate her caring touch. Dr. Abby euthanized her once-in-a-lifetime dog, Chance, while he was resting on his doggie bed. It was one of the hardest things she has ever done in her life, but she was able to get through it with the help of her husband and Chance. Euthanasia does not have to be a scary thing for owners or pets. (Note: this service is currently temporarily reserved for patients of Abby's Road).
In 2011 Dr. Abby experienced firsthand what it is like to be in a really tough financial situation. She was in-between jobs with a broken ankle and an infant to care for. Friends and family stepped up and helped Abby and her family though a very difficult time. Although Abby loves being able to visit pets in their own homes she realized there were many other animals out there who needed her help. She saw a need in Central Iowa for affordable wellness care. She now partners up with seven local businesses to see animals at those locations. She helps with annual examinations, vaccinations, and preventative medications. Abby also sees pets for minor illnesses, and she consults on chronic health conditions. Abby will also perform acupuncture, VOM - Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation, cold laser therapy, and Alpha Stim M treatments. She will make recommendations for herbal treatments & supplements when needed. Dr. Abby feels that all pets should be allowed the right to quality affordable integrative care.
Dr. Abby makes quality time for her clients with questions. If you are considering pursuing care for your pet with Dr. Abby please email her at (AbbysRoadVeterinaryCareARVC@gmail.com).
